R.A. Dickey, an award-winning pitcher with a strong Christian witness, will share his story at the next Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) event on Thursday, April 18 at the Harpeth House.

Dickey, who lives in the Nashville area, will speak at the bring-your-own lunch event from noon to 2 p.m. Dickey attended Montgomery Bell Academy and the University of Tennessee, where he played baseball.

During his professional baseball career, he played for the Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Atlanta Braves. While playing with the Mets in 2012, he won the Cy Young Award, the top pitching award in Major League Baseball. He also played on the 1996 US Olympic Baseball Team. He retired from baseball in 2018.

Dickey helps operate the Florida-based Honoring the Father Ministries, which provides medical supplies, powdered milk, and baseball equipment to the impoverished in Latin America. His autobiography, entitled Wherever I Wind Up was released in 2012. Currently, he also serves as a pitching coach for Christ Presbyterian Academy. He and his wife, Anne, have four children.
