The God Who Feeds Us

John 6:35, 47-59
What are the things that you are hungering and thirsting after? What does your calendar say? What does your bank account say? How are you spending your time and your money? What are you chasing? What are the things that you are hungering and thirsting after when you look for ONE MORE? One more piece of pizza, One more hour at work. One more night away. One more relationship that you shouldn’t have. One more television show. One more drink. One more picture on that website. You see, the truth is that we are all hungry for something. And ever since Adam and Eve looked at that forbidden fruit, we have be hungry for things that are not good for us. It’s one of our deepest tendencies and is the root of much of our sin that separates us from God and separates us from each other.
But there is hope. Part of becoming whole again is learning to reorder our hungers, to reshape what we consume. We learn to receive good things from God over the things that we chase for ourselves. It’s the basic need we have whenever we come to this table, and by feasting at God’s table, we learn to hunger and thirst after things that heal us instead of hurt us.
