PREPARE THE WAY:
Restoring the Vandalized Image of God
September 25, 2016
Pastor David Cassidy
The restoration of the whole person is not a ‘dimension’ of the Gospel, but an outcome of the Gospel fully proclaimed and received. Some aspects do indeed await their full manifestation in the age to come; yet even now, in every soul liberated, in every naked person clothed, in every family reconciled, and in every lonely person made part of God’s family, the power of the Gospel is demonstrated. In each of these ways, the incarnation of God in Christ is comprehensively affirmed by the Church. Counseling Centers, Medical Missions, Food Banks, Shelters, and the ministry of hope in a hopeless world are not side issues for the Church, but part of our mission in the Gospel. Nor must we conclude we do this on our own; it will take congregations working in concert across a city to serve all in the Light’s defeat of the darkness.
Christ came across time and space and demonic resistance and entered into the howling wilderness of our estrangement from God. Christ came and entered into the demonic darkness of the cross and was laid to rest in the tomb. From there, he broke the chains of death and hell, and freed us to become free and join him in the mission to restore the vandalized image of God through the power of the Gospel.
