Ezekiel’s river is still flowing.
Remember Ezekiel’s vision? It started like a little trickle. It was just a little bit. But then it grew larger…
When Jesus hung between heaven and earth on the cross and died for our sins, he said “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit” and he breathed his last. Then to show that he was dead, a Roman soldier came along with a spear and pierced his sides, and from his side flowed blood and water. Blood and Water.
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy riven side which flowed,
Be to me the double cure,
Cleanse me from sin’s guilt and power.
He’s the rock Moses struck. On the cross, he was struck by the wrath of God to pay the price for our sins. And when he was struck, that rock broke open and blood flowed to forgive our sins. And water flowed – Ezekiel’s river began to move – and the current grew into a mighty torrent. On the day of Pentecost, that river of living water was flowing and it filled the streets of Jerusalem. Then it flowed out into all of Israel and Judea and Sumeria, and it flowed over North Africa and the rest of the Middle East, into all of Europe. And that river has been flowing ever since, filling the earth with the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
That Holy Spirit that was poured out on the day of Pentecost is the same Holy Spirit who is with you right now.
