The Net Was Not Torn: Amazed by Mercy

When we move far away from God, rather than being angry and putting his hand up towards us, God does exactly the opposite. When we’re moving away from him, he comes after us. That’s mercy.
Novelist Graham Greene wrote “You cannot conceive, nor can I, the appalling strangeness of the mercy of God.” Why is it strange? Why is it appalling? It is foreign to us, this mercy, and it’s something which – if it really grips us – will AMAZE us. It will astonish our souls. Especially when we discover that we’re the recipients.
No matter how badly behaved we’ve been, no matter how fallen and broken we’ve been, the net of God’s mercy is not torn and he will not lose us. No matter how far you’ve fallen, no matter how far you’ve run, Christ, who has caught you, will never let you go.
